1. If you could meet any artist (past/present) who would it be? And why?
I would ask Moebius for a portfolio review. The guy was an illustration sage and did just about everything you could do as an illustrator in his career and more. I am super curious about what he would think of my work, and how he’d advise me on refining it. I would probably want to ask him for career advice as well.
2. Did your childhood environment have any influence on your creativity?
Absolutely. It started with my mom decorating the walls of my room with her own interpretations of “Where the Wild Things Are.” After that I started copying Sunday comic strips, then cartoons for most of my years before high school; I was always drawing something. My favorite thing to drawback then was Dragon ball Z so I think of Akira Toriyama as one of my biggest influences growing up.
3. Do you have any tips or inspiring words for others?
Your career does not have to be a race and it is ok to take time off to reflect/reassess your goals when you need to.
You will always have room for improvement, and you are never above critique, no matter how good you think you are.
Do not stress about “style” if you feel like you do not have one. If you keep practicing and creating, your interests and habits will eventually manifest themselves as a “style.”
4. What does "being creative" mean to you?
In my opinion, being creative means using your life’s experiences and interests to create a unique dialogue with the world. This could be through drawing, film, writing, etc.
5. On a lighter note what Muppet character best fits your personality? And why?
Kermit because he is a meme lord.
