1. If you could meet any artist (past/present) who would it be? And why?
Bazalel, described in the book of Exodus from the Hebrew Bible as the chief artisan of the Tabernacle and the designer the Ark of the Covenant. Can’t think of a cooler gig than that.
2. Did your childhood environment have any influence on your creativity?
I grew up in a family steeped in Italian immigrant history and ideals. The connections to another world and culture opened my mind and heart to a larger reality – and stirred in me a deep appreciation for a creative life.
3.What subjects inspire you?
Spirituality, theology, sociology, anthropology, art history.
4. What does “being creative” mean to you?
Being creative is to be human. While we are not all artists, we all share at some level the ability to make something material from a thought or an idea. There is nothing more awe inspiring than that.
5 Do you have any tips or inspiring words for others?
I’ll share a line from one of my favorite poet’s, Theodore Roethke – “Put yourself in rising waters, the flood will teach you to swim”.
